Solace is a grief support companion app created by Verilas Digital Inc. ("we," "our," or "us"), a federally incorporated company in Canada. We are deeply committed to protecting the privacy of our users, particularly given the sensitive nature of the information shared within our app.
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using Solace, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
Technical and usage data is collected in aggregate and is not linked to your personal identity.
We do not use your personal data for advertising. We do not sell your data.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your information with third parties for advertising purposes. We may share information only in the following limited circumstances:
Your journal entries are private and stored securely. We do not read, review, or use the content of your journal entries for any purpose other than displaying them to you within the app. Your mood tags and grief milestone data are used only to personalise your in-app experience. Your private reflections belong to you.
Your faith preference is used solely to personalise your experience within Solace. It is never shared with third parties, used for advertising, or disclosed outside of your account. Faith background is treated as a sensitive personal information category under the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
Solace offers a free tier and a premium subscription ($12.99 CAD/month or $79.00 CAD/year). All billing is processed through Apple's App Store. We do not store your credit card or payment details.
If your premium subscription lapses or is cancelled, your account will revert to the free tier. Your personal data, journal entries, and profile information will be retained for 90 days to allow for account reactivation. After 90 days of inactivity on a lapsed account, we may delete your data. You will be notified before deletion occurs.
The Solace web app (solaceapp.ca) uses cookies and Firebase authentication tokens to maintain secure sessions and improve performance. We do not use tracking cookies for advertising. We do not participate in cross-site tracking. You may manage cookie preferences through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect login functionality.
Your data is stored using Google Firebase Firestore with servers located in Montreal, Canada. Firebase uses industry-standard encryption to protect your data in transit and at rest. We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to safeguard your personal information. However, no digital system is 100% secure and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
In the event of a data breach that poses a real risk of significant harm to you, we will notify you and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada as required under PIPEDA. We will make every reasonable effort to notify affected users within 72 hours of becoming aware of a qualifying breach, and will provide information about what occurred, what data was affected, and what steps we are taking to address it.
To request account deletion, contact hilda@solaceapp.ca. We will process your request within 30 days.
Solace is intended for users 18 years of age or older, given the emotional and grief-related nature of the content. We do not knowingly collect personal information from individuals under 18. If we become aware that someone under 18 has provided us with personal information, we will delete it promptly. Please contact hilda@solaceapp.ca if you believe a minor has provided information to us.
If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to delete your personal information, and the right to opt out of the sale of personal information. If you are located in the European Economic Area, you may have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), including the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or object to the processing of your personal data, and the right to data portability. Solace is operated from Canada and primarily intended for Canadian users. If you access Solace from outside Canada, your information may be transferred to and processed in Canada, where data protection laws may differ from those in your jurisdiction. By using Solace, you consent to this transfer.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the effective date at the top of this policy and, where appropriate, by sending a notification through the app or by email. Your continued use of Solace after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
